Overview
Business Engin was built from a simple observation: small and medium businesses juggle too many disconnected tools. Their customers live in one system, their tasks in another, their inventory in a spreadsheet.
The goal was to consolidate the core business management functions into a single, coherent platform — without the enterprise bloat.
The Problem
Enterprise CRMs (Salesforce, HubSpot) are powerful but overkill for teams under 50 people. Spreadsheet-based workflows are free but break down at scale. There was a gap for a tool that sits between "spreadsheet" and "enterprise suite."
The Solution
Business Engin provides four core pillars:
- Customer management — Contact records, interaction history, and relationship mapping
- Product catalog — Inventory tracking with categories, pricing tiers, and stock alerts
- Task management — Assignable workflows with deadlines, status tracking, and team collaboration
- Analytics dashboard — Real-time visibility into business health: revenue trends, customer activity, task completion rates
The architecture uses React on the frontend for a responsive interface, Node.js for the API layer, and PostgreSQL for reliable data persistence.
Results
The platform reached 350+ users during its beta phase and continues to evolve based on direct user feedback. It serves as the foundation for the broader Engin product family.
Key Takeaway
Building business tools requires understanding the actual workflows of the people using them. We spent significant time observing how small teams actually manage their operations before writing a single line of code. That research shaped every feature decision.
